Pissed Crisis was painted during my recovery from my fourth spinal surgery, a very large double surgery. I had to wear this hard collar from Memorial Day to Labour Day. I was allowed to take it off once a day for ten minutes while I showered. I even slept in it. The day I started this painting was over 100 degrees. I had taken my daily struggle of a walk (I was still learning to walk again) to the top of my block, holding onto the wall and my cane. By the time I got back I was dispirited, angry and the sponges under my chin were awash in sweat. I tore off the collar and threw it angrily across my studio. Then, good patient that I am, I washed my face and chin, put clean pads into the collar and put it back on. In order to express my anger, I created this painting.
